A shop owner in Kariega chased after a fleeing robbery suspect and with the assistance of police successfully arrested him.

It is alleged that at about 06:45 on the morning of 3 September 2021, four suspects armed with knives entered a shop in Durban Street, Kariega and demanded cash.

A scuffle ensued between the shop owner and the suspects who later fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The owner chased after them on foot. A passing police vehicle noticed the owner chasing after the suspects and went to his assistance. A 40 year old suspect was arrested.

The suspect is detained on a charge of business robbery and will appear in the Kariega magistrate’s court on Monday 6 September 2021.
