The Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll has welcomed the sentencing that was handed down by the Uitenhage Regional Court on 2 November 2018 and said: “The sentencing must serve as a deterrent for those who commit crimes against women and children”.

The accused, Riaan Hendrickse (37) was sentenced to an effective eight years imprisonment for raping a 21 year old woman on 25 November 2017 at 02:30 in Kamesh. The victim went with the accused to his residence to meet her boyfriend. The boyfriend was not at the residence and as the victim stepped out of the house, the accused grabbed her and forced her back into his house where he assaulted and raped her.

The victim managed to get help from her friends who took her home after the incident. She reported the incident to the South African Police Service in Kamesh and the accused was arrested on 28 November 2017 on a charge of rape.

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended the investigating officer from the Uitenhage Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, as well as the Uitenhage Regional Court for the effective sentencing that was handed down.
