Excellent teamwork led to the successful apprehension of a 30-year-old suspect who was found in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

Alert SAPS Uitenhage K9 Unit members responded immediately to a tracker activation in Kwazakele at 21:40 on Sunday, 17 April 2022.

Members proceeded towards an open plot in Kwazakele where they noticed the vehicle with three occupants inside. When the suspects noticed the police vehicle, they jumped out of the blue Ford Laser and started to run.

K9, Yady, was immediately released and she managed to apprehend one suspect. The Ford Laser was stolen the same evening in Motherwell.

The remaining two suspects jumped over a fence and managed to evade arrest.

Uitenhage K9 Unit members continued to search the plot and successfully recovered two other stolen vehicles, a blue Ford Bantam that was reported stolen in March 2022 in Motherwell and a white Opel Astra that was stolen in September 2021 in Ikamvelihle.

All three vehicles were impounded for further investigation.

The arrested suspect is due to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 April 2022 on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
