On enquiring, he was informed that a silver Isuzu Frontier bakkie was stolen from the premises. The vehicle was not fitted with a tracker however the owner’s cellphone was in the bakkie.

Immediately Constable Naidu alerted his colleagues from the K9 Unit and guided them as to the movements of the cellphone. K9 members, W/O Shaun Dicks and Sgt Nico Carelson spotted the vehicle in Njoli Street in Kwazakele. As they approached the bakkie, the occupants jumped out and jumped into another vehicle.

The K9 unit members pursued after the vehicle and succeeded in stopping it.

A CZ pistol with 39 rounds, belonging to one of the suspects was also seized.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the excellent synergy between Const Naidu and his K9 colleagues. ‘ A police officer is never off duty and a dedicated and committed officer will always place his life and time above his own while acting in the interest of citizens.
