Police are investigating a case of murder after a 79 year old man, Johnnie Marx, was found dead inside his Jeffreys Bay home on Tuesday evening 12 November 2019.
Around 21:00, an official from a private security company summoned the police to a house in Pride of India Crescent in Wavecrest, Jeffreys Bay, after a body of the man was found inside the bedroom.
Police records, said that a relative of the deceased, who is living out of town, was trying to get hold of him prompting a call to the security company to go to the house. It is said that on arrival at the house, there was no response and all the doors were locked. It is further said that a security official obtained a permission to force open one of the doors.
It is further alleged that an elderly man was found dead and tied to a chair inside his bedroom with a plastic bag over his head. The likely cause of death is suffocation. A safe was found open but it is unknown if anything was stolen.
