Investigation: Brutal murder of woman at Brighton Beach

Extensive search by SAPS Mount Road detectives to trace the next of kin of a 25-year-old murdered woman have finally ended after she was positively identified by her family on the morning of 26 April 2021.

It is alleged that earlier this month, the woman’s friends went to a rape crisis centre in North End and reported that they suspect that the murdered woman found at Brighton Beach parking area on 10 February 2021 could possibly be their friend, Nomzamo Blom (25). This information led the investigating officer, D/Sgt Gavin Scheepers to hunt down her family in Peddie. She was positively identified.

According to police information, Blom lived with friends at the ‘brown flats’ in Sidwell and earlier in February 2021 (date unknown) at about 22:00 while they were seated outside the flat, a white Quantum minibus stopped with the driver and his passenger inside. Blom and her friend left with them and her friend later left Blom with them and returned home. That was the last time that anyone had seen her.

On 10 February 2021 at about 08:00, a security vehicle patrolling the Brighton Beach area stumbled onto her brutally battered body in the parking area. Blom sustained severe injuries to her head and stomach. She was naked. Police suspected that the woman may have been run over several times by a vehicle.

A case of murder was under investigation. Police believe that the driver and the passenger of the Quantum minibus may be able to assist them in their investigation and is appealing to taxi owners or anyone to assist in tracing the duo. D/Sgt Gavin Scheepers may be contacted on 073 930 9272 or SAPS Mount Road on 041 394 6316 or Crime Stop 0n 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.

In another unrelated incident, Mount Road detectives are also trying to trace a driver and his conductor (guardjie) of a white Quantum minibus after two women were allegedly robbed by them resulting in the death of one of them on Wednesday, 23 December 2020.

It is alleged that on the mentioned date, the two women aged 24 and 25 years old boarded a taxi in Cape Road. They were the only two passengers in the taxi.

At some point of their ride, they realised that the driver had taken a different route. He joined the M4 –freeway from Mount Road. When he was questioned, the women were robbed of their personal belongings – handbags, money, cell phone etc. The 25 year old female jumped to the back seat of the taxi. It is further alleged that in her traumatic state, she opened the back window and jumped from the moving taxi.

She died on impact.

The 24-year-old woman was dropped off near New Brighton. She sought public assistance and reported the matter to New Brighton police

The body of the woman was lying on the M4 – Port Elizabeth outbound. A bakkie travelling in that direction, noticed the body on the road and braked causing a heavy duty truck to hit him from behind. The truck had jack-knifed. No one sustained injuries in this incident.

Police have opened a case of robbery and an inquest docket was opened in relation to the woman’s death. The woman was identified as Lindani Hove (25).

In both of the above cases, a white Quantum minibus is alleged to have been involved.
