Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced a 51 year old man for raping his wife aged 18. The accused was sentenced to undergo 18 years imprisonment. It is alleged that the couple was in separation and the wife decided to go to her husband’s home to fetch all her belongs. Once the victim arrived at the home of the accused, the accused closed the door and raped his wife.
The crime was committed on the 4 December 2018, at about 11:00, at Mthwaku Locality, Feni Village, Centane. After raping the victim, the accused allowed her to take all belongings. The wife reported the rape case at Centane Police Station.
The accused was traced and arrested by Butterworth Family Violence and Child Protection (FCS) Unit investigators. The accused who cannot be named to protect the identity of his wife was sentenced on Friday, 30 August 2019 at Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court.
Eastern Cape Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has welcomed the sentence imposed on the accused person. She said that the sentence will serve as a lesson to other men whether its husband or boyfriend. Women must be respected and no means no, said General Ntshinga.
