A 24- year-old man is due to appear in the Motherwell magistrates’ court on a charge of murder following the fatal assault of a 37-year-old Motherwell man.

It is alleged that police were notified on Wednesday, 4 January 2023, of an injured man that was at the Powerline Shacks, NU9.

Upon arrival of SAPS, at about 18:10, police interviewed the owner of the informal home. The owner informed the police that he discovered an unknown person inside his house, when he arrived at his home.

A quarrel ensued, which led to a fight in which the 24-year-old man allegedly used a hammer to assault the intruder.

The 37-year-old man passed away on the scene and the 24-year-old man was arrested on the spot on a charge of murder.

The name of the deceased will be released once formal identification is completed.

The 24 year-old man is due to appear in the Motherwell magistrate’s court on Friday, 6 January 2023 on the said charge.

Investigations are continuing.
