The Amathole District Commissioner, Maj Gen Ngangema Xakavu has welcomed the sentencing of rape accused Sabelo Qokweni (26) on Wednesday, 3 May 2023.
Qokweni was sentenced for rape of an 18-year-old teenager in February 2022 at Qeqe location Bolothwa A/A outside Dutywa.
The accused entered the home of the victim at about 02:00 on 6 February 2022 while she was sleeping and sexually assaulted her.
The suspect appeared in the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on court on 11 February 2022.
He remained in custody until the finalisation of his case.
On 3 May 2023 the accused was convicted and sentenced in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court for rape and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Maj Gen Ngangema Xakavu commended the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Siyabulela Yeyana who worked meticulously in ensuring that justice was served to the accused.
