Hefty sentence for Kareedouw robber

King Williams Town: Violence against women are at the top of the SAPS’s priority list and detectives from the South African Police Service will ensure that they conduct thorough investigations that will lead to the successful prosecution of perpetrators. This was proven again by sterling work conducted by detectives from SAPS Kareedouw, when they ensured that an offender was removed from the society. It is alleged that the accused Phumzile Ndzengu (34) stabbed and robbed a 44-year-old female victim an amount of R150 and a cellphone at Guava Juice area in Kareedouw. The incident took place on the 8 July 2018. Commitment from a dedicated team of police officials led them to the successful apprehension of the suspect soon after the crime was committed.

On Tuesday, 23 October 2018, Phumzile Ndzengu was sentenced to 12-years imprisonment by the Kareedouw Regional Court on a charge of robbery aggravating. The Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok commended the investigating officer for the effective and efficient manner in which he performed his investigations. “This conviction and lengthy sentence meted out by our courts are as a result of thorough investigations by our detectives, who gathered all relevant evidence to successfully identify and link the offender to the crime”
