The annual opening of the season festivities attracts thousands of Port Elizabeth residents to the beach front every year.

Police and law enforcement agencies including Metro Police, Metro Traffic, Metro security, municpal police have their ‘hands full’ with attending to various crimes ranging from drunken behavior, assaults and theft out/from motor vehicles however this year due to the high visibility by our men and women in blue, no serious cases were reported.

The number of successful arrests and police operations is an indication to the community and a warning to the criminals that the police have not taken a break over the festive season.

On 16 December 2017, at about 00:55, members of the Visible Gang Intervention Team were patrolling in Helenvale when they heard gunshots in Bramlin Markman Road. They immediately responded and spotted a male throwing a firearm in the yard. He was arrested and a.38 special revolver and two rounds of ammunition was seized.

He will appear in court on Monday, 18 december 2017.

During the early hours of the morning of 17 December 2017, Public Order Policing members found a 9mm Lorinco pistol on the beach in Summerstand.

The firearm is reported stolen on a Motherwell case in 2006. No arrests. Police investigation continues.
