Somerset East Regional Court convicted and sentenced Simphiwe Grootboom (34) for the rape of a 26-year-old woman.
It is alleged that the victim was consuming alcohol with the boyfriend and suspect and they fell asleep. She woke up when the suspect was on top of her and she was raped. The suspect is known to the victim.
The accused was traced and arrested on Monday 4 March 2019. On Thursday, 26 August 2021 he was convicted and sentenced.
