A 22 year old man was arrested by the community after allegedly raping a 9 year old girl at Mamolweni Locality in Ngqeleni on Thursday, 4 January 2018, at about 17h00.
The community of Mamolweni conducted a manhunt for the suspect on Thursday evening and arrested the suspect on 5 January at about 05h00.
It is alleged that the victim was with her friend when the suspect alighted from an unknown truck and dragged the victim to a nearby veld where he raped her. The suspect was released to police unhurt.
Mthatha Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Makonza applauded Chief Jongisebe Gwadiso for leading a disciplined community who knows and acted according to the law that condemns mob killings. She further complimented them for their commitment in fight against crime.
The suspect will appear before Ngqeleni Magistrate Court on Monday the 8 January 2018 facing charges of rape.
