While Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata lauded the swift arrest of two suspects who allegedly went on a shooting spree on the night of 24 January 2023, in Gelvandale, he lashed out on criminals who have the audacity to challenge police officers executing their duties by shooting at them.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, 24 January at about 18:35 SAPS Gelvandale attended to a complaint of a shooting in Beaton Street in Gelvandale where two women aged 38 and 53 sustained gunshot wounds in the arm and wrist respectively.

A 30-year-old male was found dead in a yard with multiple gunshots.

While still busy at the scene, shots could be heard in Tobias Street which is next to Beaton Street. Two males, ages unknown, each sustained a gunshot wound in the hip.
