Quick reaction by members of SAPS Gelvandale Crime Prevention Tracing Unit resulted in the speedy arrest of a 17-year-old teenager and the recovery of a stolen firearm.

It is alleged that on Friday, 20 March 2020 at about 06:15, members responded to a complaint of three suspects allegedly robbing people at ‘the stoep’ in Kobus Road in Helenvale.

The information was swiftly followed up and as police were driving in Kobus Road, a person stopped them and informed them that he had just been robbed of his bag.

The suspect was spotted and as police stopped alongside him, he started running. He was apprehended and the bag recovered. A revolver reported stolen in Walmer in January 2019 was also recovered.

The teenager was detained for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Two other cases of armed robbery was opened at SAPS Gelvandale this morning.

Detectives will be probing a possible link to the suspect.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday, 23 March 2020.
