Gelvandale gang member arrested after boy (10) wounded in shooting

The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit (Gang Investigation) arrested a 25 year old gang affiliate at his home last night, 26 June 2019 in Gelvandale.

It is alleged that on Saturday, 22 June 2019 at about 19:00, three males aged 23 and 24 were walking at the corners of Springbok and Tobias Streets in Gelvandale when they saw 3 males walking towards them. Two males pulled out a firearm and started shooting at the group who managed to escape unharmed however a stray bullet hit a 10 year boy who was sitting on the pavement. He was struck in his upper arm and was taken to hospital for treatment. The suspects fled the scene.

On 27 June 2019 at about 22:45, the Provincial OCI members with assistance of Mount Road Cluster OCC members followed up on information on the whereabouts of one suspect and he was arrested at his house in Goliath Street in Gelvandale.
He is detained on 4 counts of attempted murder and is expected to appear in court on Friday, 28 June 2019.
