Due to the diligent work displayed by Gqeberha Flying Squad members, four alleged gang members were arrested and two firearms recovered after a police chase ended in Gelvandale last night, 26 July 2021.

It is alleged that at about 21:40, Flying Squad members were following up on information of suspicious males when they noticed a black VW Polo in Ridgeside Crescent, Parkridge.

The members cautiously followed the vehicle through several streets and when they turned into Beetlestone Road, a chase ensued. An occupant in the VW Polo Player fired shots at the police vehicle.

Members returned fire causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and stopped at the corners of Beetlestone Road and Gladiolus Street in Malabar.

One person fled on foot while four other suspects were arrested. Two firearms (a revolver and a 9mm pistol) were recovered. Ownership of the firearms is yet to be established.

The suspects aged between 23 and 32 were detained on charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and reckless and/or negligent driving.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
