The continued recovery and seizure of firearms is a direct result of intensified crime prevention operations, intelligence collection, police visibility and the efforts of the members who work daily to ensure that illegal and unlicensed firearms are taken out of circulation and out of the hands of criminal elements.
On Thursday, 1 February 2018, at about 19:50 PE Flying Squad members received information that a shooting may possibly take place in Marikana in Bethelsdorp.
While patrolling the area incessantly, the members spotted a suspicious white Nissan NP300 speeding past them, the members gave chase and succeeded in stopping the vehicle. On searching the vehicle, a .38 revolver and ammunition as well as a modified gas gun was found in the vehicle.
Three suspects aged, 25,28 and 34 years old were arrested and detained on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The 25 year old suspect is a known gang affiliate while the gang affiliation of the other two is unknown at this stage.
Suspects will appear in the PE magistrate court on Monday, 5 February 2018.
