The Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga has deployed a Provincial intervention team to Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, consisting of 30 members from the National Intervention Unit, Tactical Response Team and Public Order Policing who will perform duties at 5 stations across the Metro.
‘This team will be working in the Motherwell and Mount Road clusters in station areas that require proactive policing in order to curb gang related violence and serious crimes.’
The Intervention team will be working from the Operational Command Centres in both clusters. ‘We seek to address crime and violence in these areas in a proactive manner and also to enhance an integrated approach to safety. I urge communities to work with the police and walk together with us as we squeeze the space of criminals. The mobilisation of young people and communities in crime fighting remains one of the key strategic objectives of the SAPS and demands that we intensify our interactions with various stakeholders to ensure that we win the war against crime,’ added Lt Gen Ntshinga.
The Provincial Commissioner is urging communities not to harbour criminals and attack the police who are there to ensure their safety. ‘This team was sent to areas as part of a broader strategy to fight the scourge of drugs, gang violence well as serious and violent crimes and we will remain in these hotspot areas for the next two months ensuring that criminals are arrested and the community and our children ARE and FEEL safe,’ stated Lt Gen Ntshinga.
