Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major General Thembisile Patekile has welcomed the sentencing of four drug dealers arrested in separate incidents during October and November 2018.

Special operations were conducted by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit (Gang Investigations) in Algoa Park, Humewood and Gelvandale during the mentioned months. The suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs. They appeared in court and were released on bail pending the outcome of their respective cases.

On Monday 4 February 2019, the four drug pedlars were sentenced in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court for dealing in drugs.

Allister Kannemeyer (38) was sentenced on two cases in Algoa Park for dealing in drugs. In the first case, he was sentenced to a fine of R10 000 or 2 years imprisonment and a further 3 years imprisonment suspended for 5 years and in the second case he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment suspended for 3 years. He paid a fine of R10 000.

Phumuzile Zingela (27) was found guilty for dealing in drugs also in Algoa Park in October 2018 and was sentenced to a fine of R10 000 or 2 years imprisonment and a further 3 years imprisonment suspended for 5 years. He paid his fine of R10 000.

Douglas Obisirike (30) was sentenced to a fine of R10 000 or 2 years imprisonment and a further 3 years imprisonment suspended for 5 years. He paid his fine of R10 000. He was arrested In Humewood in October 2018.

Mario Myburgh (36) was found guilty on two counts of dealing in drugs and was sentenced on count one to a fine of R15 000 or 3 years imprisonment and a further 3 years imprisonment suspended for 5 years and in count two he was sentenced R20 000 or 4 years imprisonment and a further 3 years suspended for 5 years. He paid a total fine of R35 000.

Major General Patekile has warned drug traffickers that the SAPS ‘will continue in our endeavours to cripple the drug trade that is destroying the lives of innocent young people. Our presence in these hotspot areas will be intensified with the aim of uprooting and apprehending those responsible for drug peddling within the community. Drug abuse is the main cause leading to social degeneration of our youth.’
