Due to the swift reaction between members of Mount Road Crime Prevention Unit and Port Elizabeth Flying Squad, four suspects between the ages of 23 and 29 years old were arrested. A firearm, a hijacked vehicle as well as stolen property was recovered.

It is alleged that on Friday, 10 June 2016 at about 06:00, the 30 year old complainant was walking in Leyland street North End, when a white BMW passed him. The vehicle then turned around and stopped next to him. One suspect pointed a firearm at the complainant while two more armed suspects got out of the vehicle and took his laptop bag and cell phone.

Members from Mount Road Crime Prevention unit interviewed the complainant and circulated information regarding the vehicle involved in the robbery. Shortly after the incident, members from PE Flying Squad spotted a similar vehicle in the Deal Party area with four occupants inside. The vehicle was stopped and upon searching it, the members recovered a firearm and further investigation revealed that the vehicle was positively linked to a hijacking in Algoa Park last week.

The members are applauded for their alertness and swift action which led to the arrest of the four suspects, recovery of a stolen vehicle, stolen property and the seizure of a firearm.
