Tactical Response Team members deployed at Qumbu followed information about a suspect involved in arson, attempted murder and house robbery at Kubusi. The suspect was arrested at Black Hill, Qumbu on 7 August 2020 at about 09:00.
The 29-year-old male suspect was charged in connection with arson, attempted murder and house robbery that took place at Kubusi, Sulenkama in Qumbu on 6 July 2020.
A follow up was conducted resulting in the arrest of a 38-year-old male suspect from Black Hill, Qumbu who was found in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as being possession of stolen live stock.
Two more suspects, aged between 46 and 50 years from Black Hill, Qumbu were charged for interference and obstruction of police duties as well as Intimidation after trying obstruct the police while executing official duties.
During the operation, one 303 rifle with one .303 magazine with Seven .303 live rounds were recovered. The following suspected stolen stock consisting of seven mixed lambs and one Hi sense cellphone were recovered.
In another operation, Tactical Response Team deployed at Ngcobo successfully followed up on information from Crime Intelligence Team about illegal possession of firearm.
Members followed up resulting in the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect at Chris Hani Location Mthatha. He was charged for possession of prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
One 9mm Parabellum Luger Pistol with Ten live rounds as well as a 9mm pistol magazine were recovered.
The suspects are expected to appear at Ngcobo and Qumbu magistrate’s court soon facing respective charges.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga was elated, she further encouraged those who are still in possession of illegal firearms to take full advantage of the extended firearms amnesty period.
“As from 1 August-31 January 2021, take full advantage of the recently extended firearm amnesty period and handover those illegal weapons in your hands, as police are also coming to ensure all illegal weapons are removed from criminal hands,” she advised.
