Five hijack taxi, murder and dump owner’s body, Tsolo

On 8 March 2019, at about 22h00, Sergeant Ngadi, Gqosha and Constable Odendaal were performing their night shift duties following up on information of a hijacked Taxi from Tsolo.

While busy on the lookout, they spotted a suspicious (no number plate both rear and front) Quantum near the turn off to eNgcobo direction (Gushingalo junction) and driver was ordered to stop.

The vehicle had five occupants including one female. The police members interviewed the driver and passengers but they couldn’t give satisfactory answers. Members also noticed blood stains on the tracksuit top they claimed to be belonging to the driver. There was blood stains inside the taxi which they could not have account for.

One cellphone was also discovered from one of the suspects and that is when members’ suspicion increased and arrested all of them and detained them.

The owner of the vehicle was found and he told the police that the driver of his vehicle was last seen on 8 March 2019 when he was reporting for duty.

The suspects were detained and vehicle was also confiscated. The suspects’ ages range between 19 and 20.

On 9 March 2019, the following components were activated LCRC, Standby Detective, Vispol Commander and the on duty Shift members who conducted further investigation. It was established that the driver was killed and his body dumped at one of the farms around Maclear. The suspects pointed out the deceased body and the murder crime scene.

The vigilance displayed by our dedicated members who still can work with diligence and without being supervised and bring this to its finalisation is commended, said Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Ntshinga after receiving the news.

The relevant stations were informed & they are busy opening cases as our dedicated members solved two serious cases from two neighbouring stations. The team were commended for the good work done.
