During a heavy monitored funeral of the late Mr Mbuzeli Mshumpela (47), four men with ages ranging between 36 and 48 were arrested when the Quantum they were travelling was searched by Mthatha police at Julukuqu locality in Bityi today the 15 September 2018.

During the search a 9mm pistol (serial number erased) with 7 rounds was found hidden in the Quantum engine. The Quantum was also confiscated. A number of knives was also confiscated from other attendees.

The deceased who was a taxi owner was accosted, shot and killed by unknown assailants whilst driving to his home with his wife and brothers at Julukuqu on the 3 September 2018 at about 16h00. Motive for his killing is not known and no arrest as yet.

All four suspects were from Cape Town and will appear before Bityi Periodical Court on the 17 September 2018 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition and the firearm will be sent for ballistic testing.
