Firearm stolen from Walmer gun trader recovered, Bethelsdorp

SAPS Bethelsdorp Crime Prevention members arrested a 27 year old man in possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition. According to police information, on Thursday, 11 July 2019 at about 09:50, the members were patrolling in Niekerk Street when they noticed a group standing outside a house. As the vehicle stopped, one of them started to run. He was apprehended at the back of a house in Niekerk Street. A .38 revolver was recovered. The firearm was reported stolen from a gun trader in Walmer in January 2019.

The suspect was further linked to an attempted murder which took place on Tuesday, 09 July 2019 in Melkbos Street in Arcadia. It is alleged that the complainant (26) and his friend were walking when the suspect emerged from a yard and started shooting at them. No injuries were sustained. The suspect is known to the complainant.

The suspect is appearing in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court today, 12 July 2019 on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as attempted, murder.

Four wanted suspects were also arrested between last night, 11 July 2019 and the morning of 12 July 2019, by members of the Mount Road Cluster Detective Trio Task Team and Tracing Team.

The suspects were wanted on housebreaking, hijacking and armed robbery cases committed from 2003 to 2018 in the Walmer, Bethelsdorp and Gelvandale areas.

These suspects will appear in the various courts on Monday, 15 July 2019.
