On Saturday, 1 June 2019, SAPS Gelvandale Tracing Team members were patrolling in Highfield Road when they spotted two male suspects. The suspects were searched and a revolver with ammunition was found on the 22 year old person. He was detained on a charge of prohibited possession of a firearm while the other suspect (25) was also arrested and detained on a charge of robbery. The serial number on the revolver was filed off.
After following up on further information, the 25 year old suspect was positively pointed out by the robbery complainant. It is alleged that on Friday, 31 May 2019, at about 08:30, a 40 year old woman was walking near the taxi rank in Schauderville when she was accosted by two males. One had a knife and the other a firearm. She was threatened and her handbag containing cash and her cellphone was taken.
They are expected to appear in the Gelvandale magistrates’ court on Monday, 3 June 2019.
