Fighting factions: 28 Homesteads burnt down, 2 people shot, Lusikisiki

The South African Police Service Management has strongly condemned the violence and arson incidents and those responsible for these actions at Scambini and Zitha localities, Lusikisiki.

It is alleged that on Sunday 31 March 2019, at least twenty eight homesteads were burnt down at Scambini Locality allegedly by the group from Zitha Locality during a traditional ceremony. Two people aged between 52 years and 57 years were shot and received medical attention at Local hospital.

Public Order Policing members have been deployed to stabilize the situation in the area.

Cases of attempted murder, arson and malicious damage to property were opened and currently under investigation. No suspects have been arrested thus far. The SAPS are monitoring the situation.

Cluster Commander, Brigadier Vukile Ntandane and his management have visited the affected area. Several engagements have been conducted with other stakeholders with the aim to find a solution to the challenges.

“We appeal to the community and the fighting factions to consider other ways to solve this impasse while other amicable ways are explored instead of bloodshed and destruction of property,” said Major General Thembeka Dyantyi.
