A Toyota Quantum that was reported as hijacked at the N2 road near the Ultra City this morning at 04:00 was recovered abandoned at Gogozayo locality in Mqanduli at 06:00. It is alleged that two unknown men, one armed with a pistol hijacked the combi from the driver at gunpoint and afterwards fled.

Flying Squad members made chase and the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled to the nearby bushes. Police are combing the bushes in an effort to arrest them.

On the other hand, a 53 year old man has been arrested during a Vehicle Check Point after he was found in possession of a 9mm Star pistol with 08 rounds of ammunition on the R61 road near Police Camp on 31 December 2019, at about 19:00.

Meanwhile, in an effort to curb attempted murders, murders and robberies, stop and searches were conducted during Festive Season Operations around the District and 20 knives were confiscated and 604 × sticks of fireworks were seized.

Lastly, a 25 year old man was arrested after the stabbing and killing of a 35 year old man at Mafadobe locality in Flagstaff at about 23:30. The suspect was immediately identified and arrested. The arrested will appear before a Magistrates’ Court soon.

The District Commissioner Major General David Kanuka lauded his members for the job well done. “ZIZOJIKAIZINTO – “Turning the tide against crime.”
