Members from different stations and units continued with their enhanced police visibility and targeted, informed deployments of resources as “Operation Festive Season” continued over this Christmas 2017 long weekend.

Focus were on drug and alcohol abuse that is all contributing factors to serious crime. Sterkspruit concentrated at Mokhesi and Coville localities. Arrest were made for unlawful possession of drugs and ammunition and illegal shebeens closed down.

Aliwal North had a sub cluster operation together with the traffic department and in 4 different cases suspects were arrested for possession of dagga and drugs. Cases of drunken driving were opened and stop and search activities were done.

During the same period members of the Aliwal North stock theft unit and CI received positive information about sheep that was tied up next to the road between Steynsburg and Middelburg. It was followed up and the sheep was handed back to the lawful owner. An arrests will soon follow on further investigation.

All the stations in the Cluster continued with crime prevention activities in and around the cluster. The Cluster Commander Brig Xakavu encouraged the members to continue to take action against all perpetrators to ensure that our people enjoy a safe and secure festive season.
