A suspect was arrested after an elderly couple was attacked on there farm outside Aliwal North in the Eastern Cape.
Capt. Ursula Roelofse, Police spokesperson, said Kotjie Conradie (83), and his wife, Tienie (79), were attacked by four armed suspects on Saturday 3 February 2018, at around 15:15 when they arrived at their farm Uitijk which is situated between Aliwal North and Burgersdorp.
The couple had earlier been in Aliwal North where they allegedly dropped off their farm workers and did shopping before they returned home.
“The couple were assaulted and forced to open their house and the safe. The suspects fled in the couple’s Hilux bakkie with an unknown amount of cash, firearms and a cellphone. ”
According to Roelofse, police were called in and the bakkie and two firearms were found near the farm. Further investigation resulted in a suspect being arrested at Hilton, Aliwal North at 11:00 on Sunday.
The 31 year old suspect will appear in the Burgersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 7 February 2018.
