A farm situated on the R334 between Uitenhage and Rocklands, Port Elizabeth was attacked twice in one week. The first attack took place on Wednesday 27 July 2022 and the second attack took place on Friday 29 July, 2022.

The attacks were carried out by residents of an informal settlement at Kwanobuhle who started rioting on Wednesday. They rioted because they say they don’t get electricity (for which they wont have to pay for because it is an informal squatter camp).

The rioters closed the R334 during the riots from Wednesday evening by blocking it with electricity poles that they have pushed over.
The road was only opened on Friday afternoon at 14:00 for traffic.

The farm that was attacked is situated across the road from the informal settlement.

On Friday the farm owner was assaulted with a toy gun, one of his cars in a shed was burned out and another car’s window was smashed.
On Wednesday the same farm was targeted for attack when a store room was burned out.

The farm house was also targeted and food and clothing were stolen from it.

Parts of Rocklands , which include farming activities, were left without power because the rioters pushed over the electricity poles.
In June parts of Rocklands were left without power for 11 days when electricity poles were also damaged by rioters.

Residents of Rocklands criticised the Police this week because not a single rioter – and remember these riots resemble terrorism and sabotage – were arrested by the Police.
