Farm attack, elderly couple tied up, robbed, PE

An elderly couple have been attacked and tied up on their smallholding in Amanziweg, in the Colleen Glen area outside Port Elizabeth. The incident took place on Tuesday evening, 22 May 2018, at 19:00.

Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, a police spokesperson, told Maroela media that the couples dog was sniffing at the door and perturbed by something. The man (79) went to investigate and when he opened the door he was overpowered and forced back into the home.

His wife (74) attempted to activate the panic alarm but was also overpowered by the attackers before she could do so.

The couple was tied up and the attackers plundered the home and gained access to the safe, stealing two firearms, jewelry and cash. They then fled the scene.

The couple were not seriously injured. Police are investigating.
