A farm attack took place on the night of 19 August 2021, at 18:45, on a the farm Braklaagte between Hankey and Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape province of South AFrica. Albert Van Zyl and his wife were relaxing in their living room when the door glass was broken by a huge rock that was thrown through the glass.
They were overpowered, assaulted, tied up and locked them in the bathroom by five heavily armed balaclava clad attackers.
The attackers ransacked the home and fled with a number of items including two flat screen televisions, jewellery, a laptop, cellphones, liquor and firearms.
The couple managed to free themselves and raise the alarm.
Farmers and other roleplayers responded but there were no arrests.
This is the second similar attack in this area in eight days. People are warned to be extra vigilant and if in possession of a firearm for self-defence to carry it on you.
On Wednesday 11 August 2021, at 18:40 on the farm Weltevreden situated between Hankey and Humansdorp an unknown number of attackers opened fire on the farmhouse injuring the farmer (72) who was shot. The farmer returned fire causing the attackers to flee into the bush. His preparedness and response probably saved his life and those of his family.
The police are investigating the attack. There is no other information available at this stage.
