Family violence: Ngqamakhwe man sentenced for murder of his girlfriend

Tsomo Regional Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced a 57-year-old man for murder of his girlfriend aged 37. It is alleged that a murder case was reported at Ngqamakhwe Police Station on the 28 September 2017.

The murder was committed at Mission Locality, Mpukane Village, Ngqamakhwe. The accused, a 57-year-old man, Mgcineni Mayekiso quarrelled with his girlfriend Yolisa Gwalaza aged 37.

The accused person strangled the 37-year-old woman to death. He was traced and arrested. On Monday, 24 February 2020 the accused person was sentenced to undergo 15 years imprisonment.

Eastern Cape Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga welcomed the conviction and sentence imposed on the accused. She condemned the murder of the defenceless woman who could not fight and defend herself.
