Endeavors by the SAPS continue to yield positive results as more lengthy sentences are handed down as a result of the quality investigation skills adopted by our dedicated Detectives.

On 15 March 2000 an elderly woman, Nosayinethi Manundu was reportedly assaulted and drowned in a drum full of water close to her house by a group of males who accused her of killing a male who was stabbed to death at Cape Town.

The elderly woman was also being accused of practicing witchcraft by these males.

On the abovementioned date they assaulted her, torched her house and drowned her in a drum full of water.

They then left for Cape Town and the investigation continued that led to their arrest on 17 March 2000.

On 18 August 2022, Judge Jolwana the presiding judge at the Sterkspruit High Court, sentenced the four accused as follow:

Manundu Mzubongile, Mlungisi Manundu, Siyabulela Manundu and Sithembiso Yalwa sentenced to 20 years each for Murder and two years for imputing witchcraft.

Nkosiyoxolo Velemani were sentenced to five years for assault GBH and two years imputing witchcraft.

The acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo commended the meticulous and professional investigation by the investigating officer Lieutenant Colonel Monica Dinga.
