Butterworth police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and failure to stop after an accident, following the death of a pedestrian in the town, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

A man was knocked down at about 8.40pm on Saturday night along the N2 near the Yako informal settlement in Butterworth, spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said.

“The car that hit the deceased to death never stopped. The deceased, who is unknown, is estimated to be 30 years old. He was wearing [a] black tracksuit trouser, black T-shirt, and black tracksuit top with white strips. No one has been arrested.”

Manatha appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Butterworth police at 047-401-1100 or Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
