Eastern Cape mother faces charges of child abuse

African News Agency (ANA)

A 24-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Peddie Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of child abuse.

Police Spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said a mother of two children, aged 6 and 8, allegedly assaulted the older child by tying him up with a chain and a lock.

Govender said the alleged incident was reported over the weekend.

“Social workers were alerted and both boys have since been moved to their grandmother who lives in a neighbouring village,” said Govender.

The child suffered no visible injuries and both children are continuing with schooling.

The mother is currently being detained.
