Drugs, liquor, and stock theft suspects arrested in Centane

Centane police have arrested four people in connection with the possession of tik (crystal meth) and Mandrax, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

One of the suspects was also in possession of illegal ammunition, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

The three men and a woman, all between the ages of 17 and 23, were arrested on Friday at Sisonke township in Centane. They were due to appear in the Centane Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possession of drugs and illegal ammunition.

Manatha said Centane police had also closed five shebeens in various villages around Centane and confiscated a large amount of liquor.

In another incident, Butterworth stock theft unit officers arrested a 42-year-old Centane man for stock theft.

The man was arrested at his home in Mthonjeni locality, Thuthura village, Centane on Friday. He was implicated in stock theft for allegedly stealing eight sheep and selling them at various villages around Butterworth and Centane.

“A slaughtered sheep was found at Qoboqobo village, Centane. The sheep was to be used for a traditional ceremony. The carcass was confiscated and will be handed over to its lawful owner.”

The eight sheep were valued at R12,000. The man was also due to appear in the Centane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Manatha said.
