Police at SAPS Cookhouse are warning drug dealers or any person in possession of narcotics passing through their town that they will surely be arrested and detained.

This weekend five people were arrested in two separate incidents when SAPS Cookhouse Highway Patrol members conducted patrols as well as stop and searches in their small farming town.

The first three arrests were effected on Saturday, 4 February 2023 when members were engaged in proactive policing in the Bongweni location.

During their stop and searches, a total of one (1) sword, six (6) knives and 28 straws of tik were confiscated. The three suspects aged between 20 and 25 were arrested on charges of possession of drugs.

The estimated value of the drugs is approximately is R540-00.

In the second incident, two suspects from Kariega, aged 26 and 66 were arrested on 5 February 2023 when members followed up on information received of a brown Toyota Corolla transporting drugs from Gqeberha to Cradock.

The vehicle was spotted near Cookhouse on the N10 and stopped. A total of 143 mandrax tablets were found in a compartment in the car. The estimated value of the drugs is R11 340-00.

The suspects are detained on charges of dealing and possession of drugs.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday, 6 February 2023 on their respective charges.
