Dog attack knife-wielding robber to protect homeowner

Three suspects were arrested hours after allegedly breaking into a house in Middle Street in North End during the early hours of 3 April 2017.

It is alleged that the complainant (30 years old) was asleep when at about 03:15 the suspects broke into his home and stole various household items. Two men entered the room and attacked the complainant with a knife. A struggle ensued and the owner’s dog attacked one suspect while the owner grappled with the other. A third suspect was in the passage of the house.

One suspect (30 years old) was apprehended on the scene by police.

The complainant’s VW Golf was also stolen. The vehicle was circulated and at about 06:30, members of Port Elizabeth Flying Squad picked up the tracker signal in the Bethelsdorp area. Three suspects were speedily apprehended in Rensburg Street and the stolen vehicle was seized.

Three suspects aged 21, 26 and 29 years old are detained on a charge of possession of suspected stolen vehicle.

Further profiling of the suspects will be conducted and Police detectives are working around the clock to establish if these suspects can be linked to the house robbery in North End.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
