A 35-year-old male suspect has been arrested after members of East London Rapid Rail Police Unit were busy with destabilisation duties at Buffalo City Metropolitan (BCM) coastal.

Approximately 04:20 on 4 November 2022, while members were at Trum Track Road, Quigney, East London they spotted a suspicious digging by unknown males and they went to investigate.

Two of the three male suspects immediately fled the scene and the members managed to apprehend one with a huge quantity of copper cable.

According to the Buffalo City Metro Technician the estimated value of the copper including the damage R110 000.

The suspect will appear before East London Magistrate Court on 7 November 2022, facing the charges of Malicious Damage to Property on Essential Infrastructure and Theft of Copper Cables.
