In an attempt to enforce the law, police and Liquor board officials inspected the alleged problematic taverns in the Mdantsane and East London Clusters. This follows after the Liquor board office received complaints about the non compliance of these taverns with their liquor license conditions from members of the public.

It is alleged that this non compliance is rife over the weekend, hence the operation.

Thorough inspection was conducted at Juice tavern in NU7, the owner was warned for loud music. They proceeded to Ekoneni pub in NU2, the owner was warned for loud music and allowing people to drink in public. They went on to Mamiya tavern in NU1, the owner was warned for loud music.

They continued with visibility towards East London Cluster and visited Mamiya tavern in Oxford. The owner was issued with R1000 fine for liquor bylaw contrary to closing times. The owner was ordered to close.

They proceeded to Ndosi tavern in Southernwood, the patrons were removed from the tavern since the manager ran away. The tavern was ordered to close. They went to Davido’s place in Quigney. The owner was issued with R1000 fine for liquor bylaw contrary to closing times. The owner was ordered to close.

They proceed to OH Brigados in Beacon Bay. The owner was warned about the closing times.

They proceeded to Duncan Village, two liquor outlets were charged for failing to appoint managers in writing and were issued with R1000 fines each respectively.

During an intelligence driven operation police arrested a suspect for possession of drugs and confiscated fourteen mandrax tablets in Duncan Village.

In an unrelated incident, police arrested a wanted suspect for robbery with a firearm in Mooiplaas. The suspect is wanted to solve various cases in Scenery Park, East London and surrounding areas. A firearm and motor vehicle were confiscated in the process.

The suspects aged between 20 and 45 years old respectively are due to appear in different Magistrate’s Courts around the Buffalo City Metro Municipality for various crimes soon.
