In two separate incidents two suspects were arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in Walmer and Gelvandale.

In the 1st incident, it is alleged that on Saturday, 22 September 2018, at about 07:30, Public Order Policing members were patrolling in Reginald Road in Gelvandale when they noticed a male running when he saw the police vehicle.

The members chased after him and apprehended him in a yard in Reginald Street. On searching him, a 9mm pistol and ammunition was found. The 23 year old suspect will appear in the Gelvandale magistrate court on Tuesday, 25 September 2018.

In the 2nd incident at about 02:30 this morning 23 September 2018, police followed up on information received of a firearm at a house in Walmer location. On acting on the information, a 28 year old suspect was arrested and detained on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Police seized a 6.35 calibre Astra Brownie firearm and 1 round of ammunition. He will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrate court on Tuesday, 25/09.

The continuous recovery and seizure of firearms will result in the commission of less serious and violent crimes.
