Safer festive season proactive crime prevention duties resulted in the arrest of 8 suspects for unrelated crimes within 24 hours. The arrests were effected in the Mount Road and Kabega Park policing area. The suspects were arrested on charges of robbery, possession of dangerous weapons and possession of suspected stolen property.

In the first incident, on Thursday, 19 December 2019 at approximately 12:30, SAPS Kabega Park crime prevention unit were patrolling when they were stopped by a complainant who informed them that he was just robbed in the street by four suspects.

He further alleged that they were all armed with knives and they took his bag, cell phone and cash. A description of the suspects were given and the members proceeded in search of them. One suspect was arrested on the N2 freeway and the other three suspects were arrested in the Framesby area. The stolen property were recovered and the four suspects, aged between 14 and 26 years old, were arrested on charges of robbery and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court on 20 December 2019.

In the second incident on Thursday, 19 December 2019 at approximately 17:40, Mount Road members were busy attending to complaints when they were stopped by two women at the corners of Kipling and Diaz Road in Kensington who pointed towards a white Toyota Quantum taxi.

They informed the members that there is someone robbing people inside the taxi. The members managed to stop the taxi and a suspect was pointed out by the driver. The conductor was robbed and stabbed. It is further alleged that the incident occurred in Highfield Road in Korsten.

The suspect aged 25 was arrested and detained on charges of attempted robbery and assault to cause grievous bodily harm. He is expected to appear in court soon.

Also, on Thursday at approximately 23:45, members from Mount Road were patrolling in Perridgevale and in Nile Roads when they noticed three males aged between 31 and 37 pushing a black dustbin. The members stopped and searched the suspects and found a homemade firearm and a knife.

They were arrested on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of suspected stolen property. The suspects will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court soon.
