Dutywa Police arrested a twenty year old man for alleged attempted murder of a 76 year old woman.

It is alleged that the victim was asleep when she heard a knock on her door on Friday 20 April 2018 at about 00:30 at Goodhope Location, Ngxakaxha Village, Dutywa.

She didn’t open the door. The door was forced open. The Suspect came armed with an axe. He accosted the woman. She cried for help and community members came to her rescue.

She identified the suspect as the lights were on. The suspect was traced and arrested. The motive for the attempted murder is not clear at this point in time. Police investigations continue.

The suspect will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Monday 23 April 2018. Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey thanked the community who swiftly can to the elderly woman’s rescue.
