Quick response from the Anti Gang Unit and surrounding stations resulted in the speedy arrest of a 28-year-old male and the recovery of a .38 revolver which may possibly be linked to a murder in Gelvandale.

It is alleged that at about 12:00 police responded to a complaint of shooting in a parking lot at a shopping center in Cleary Park. On arrival, the body of William Henry (39) was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head.

At about 12:08, AGU vehicles saturated the area in search of the suspects. A description of the suspects were given and they noticed a group of community members chasing a male on foot towards Harrington Street, Salt Lake.

Members also chased after the suspect on foot. The suspect jumped over many fences however he was eventually apprehended in a school yard. No firearm was found on him. The 28-year-old suspect was detained for further questioning.

Also at about 12:10, AGU members’ recovered a .38 revolver in a yard in Barends Street in Salt Lake. It is alleged that the members were searching for the suspects when they spotted a male exiting a yard in Barends Street. He was searched and when nothing was a found on him, he was released. The members continued to search the yard where a . 38 special revolver was found hidden behind a cement block at the corner of the yard. The serial number was filed off.

The firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis and detectives will be probing a possible link to the murder and the arrested suspect.
