The Nelson Mandela Bay District Truck-jacking Task Team in Port Elizabeth are seeking the community’s assistance in tracing four suspects who allegedly hijacked a truck transporting cigarettes on the morning of 22 October 2020, in Port Elizabeth.

It is alleged that between 11:00 and 12:00 on the mentioned date, the complainant (42) and his passenger were in Boundary Lane, Mount Pleasant when a white VW Polo with four occupants stopped behind them. Two of the suspects armed with firearms got out and forced the driver and passenger out of the vehicle.

The complainant and his passenger were assaulted, their faces covered and forced into the VW Polo. They were dropped off in Kwazakhele where they were assisted by a member of the community who alerted the police.

The hijacked panel van a, white Peugeot was recovered in Kwazakhele by a private security company and the cigarettes were recovered near a school in the area. A total of 127 boxes of cigarettes were recovered.

Police are urging the community not to harbour criminals instead to report their activities. Anyone who can assist in tracing the suspects is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Elton Tau on 082 303 0432 of the NMB District Truck-jacking team.
