Information Team was conducting an operation on 11 September 2020, when they spotted a suspicious motor vehicle along the N2 from the direction of Mthatha towards Qumbu.

Members drove and overtook the bakkie. The vehicle was tested and it came out with a VW polo vehicle registration. Members turned into Tsolo junction and waited, luckily the driver of the bakkie also took the Tsolo route.

Several attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful. The driver accelerated fast, driving reckless and facing oncoming traffic. Eventually the driver stopped the bakkie, jumped out and ran away with police hot on his heels on foot in to the town of Tsolo where he was successfully arrested.

A 52-year-old suspect residing at Makhubeni Locality, Libode was charged for suspected stolen motor vehicle and is expected to appear in Tsolo magistrate’s court on Monday, September 2020.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the members for being alert.
