A 26 year old male suspect was arrested last night, 28 June 2018, at about midnight, after showing police where the charred body of a missing 25 year old woman was.

On 25 June 2018 the parents of Azintle Feni came to report that their daughter of 25 has been missing since 16 June 2018. They told police that the last time they saw her was when she told them that she was going to a party. On 25 June when she still did not come home, they reported her missing.

Since the report, Motherwell Detectives worked around the clock searching for her at known places that she could have been and also followed up numerous leads. By Thursday 28 June, detectives brought in all the persons that gave them leads at the detective offices in order to solve the puzzle at the Motherwell detective offices.

This led them to a suspected male’s house in Indwe Street, Ikamvelihle at about 12:30. At this premises a blue Mazda Mito was found in the yard and traces of blood was discovered in the vehicle. Further information lead them also to another house in Ikamvelihle where the suspect regularly used a room. In that room more blood stains were found on the bed. Forensic evidence were collected from both the vehicle as well as that room.

With further investigation and interrogation of the suspect later that day, he led police to a location deep inside the bushes next to Chalumna Street, Motherwell, where the charred remains of the 25 year old girl was found. The remains of a burned tyre was found with the body.

The suspect was then arrested and a murder case opened. The suspect will make a first appearance in Motherwell Magistrates Court on Monday 2 July 2018.

The Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie has expressed his appreciation for the good detective work that was done. “We have utilised our experienced detectives in Motherwell to solve this case and to find closure for the family of the murder victim. The suspect will face the full force of the law for his actions.”
