Cacadu — A 36-year-old man is scheduled to appear at the Cacadu Magistrate’s Court today, 12 June 2026, facing a murder charge following a fatal altercation with his older sibling in the Lower Mgwalana locality.
Law enforcement officials from the local South African Police Service (SAPS) responded to the distress call at approximately midnight on 10 June 2026. When officers arrived at the residence, they were greeted by a crowd of neighbors and family members. These bystanders guided the police to a specific room inside the home where the victim’s body was discovered resting on the floor.
Medical responders from Emergency Medical Services quickly assessed the 61-year-old deceased but were unable to save him, officially pronouncing him dead at the location. Observations at the scene revealed that the victim suffered from severe head trauma alongside what appeared to be a fractured arm. Following the grim discovery, authorities called in all necessary stakeholders to process the area.
Witness accounts provided crucial context to the investigation, revealing that the tragedy was preceded by a physical confrontation. The older brother, who was known to have mental challenges, reportedly engaged in a fight with the suspect the night before the police intervention, resulting in the injuries that ultimately led to his death.
Following the on-scene investigation, the 36-year-old suspect was taken into custody by SAPS officers without further incident. He remains in holding at the Cacadu police detention facility as he awaits his formal arraignment.
